Concert Information
Dates To Remember
April 23rd: Costume Handout at the Valley West Iowa Ballet Academy Location
April 27th – 3:50-4:00 pm: Photo Day at the Valley West Iowa Ballet Academy Location (Please arrive early to make sure you don’t miss your timeslot)
May 21st – 6:00-6:30 pm: Studio rehearsal with Junior Comp – Musical Theater team at the Valley West location. Please arrive in costume.
May 29th – Last day to order flowers from our recital flower partner, Recital Blooms.
May 28th – 5:05 pm: Tech rehearsal in costume at the Urbandale Performing Arts Center. Please arrive 15-20 minutes early.
May 30th – 5:45 pm: Iowa Ballet Academy Concert Performance Urbandale Performing Arts Center. Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet is in Act 1. Check in for the show is at 5:45pm, with a 6:30pm showtime
Costume Handout
The costume handout takes place at the same time as your regular class. For this class it’s just the parents who attend. We will hand out the costumes and go through all of the concert information. This is a very important meeting and gives you a chance to absorb all of the information, so please plan to attend Wednesday, April 23rd from 6:00-6:30pm. For your reference you will find the costume instructions below. We will go over them when we hand out the costumes on April 23rd.
Photo Day
Join us for Photo Day at Iowa Ballet Academy! We will capture the joy and beauty of your little dancer as they strike a pose in their costumes. Don’t miss this special opportunity to have lasting memories of your dancer! Mark your calendars for April 27th at 3:50pm. We can’t wait to see you there! Please remember that Photo day is at the Valley West Mall location.
Combined PreBallet & Junior Musical Theater Studio Rehearsal
During your regular class time on May 21st we will be rehearsing the PreBallet students with some of the older dancers who will be performing with them on stage. They are super excited to dance with your little dancers!
Tech Rehearsals
Tech Rehearsals are used to get everything ready for the big performance. It’s an important time for our dancers to practice in their costumes and ensure that every detail is perfect. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for your student’s Tech Rehearsal (which is Wednesday May 28th at 5:05pm, so arrive by 4:50pm). This is the only time they will be able to rehearse on the big stage, so please don’t miss your assigned time!
When you arrive at the theater, which is part of the Urbandale High School, please enter at the door marked “Performing Arts Center”. Once inside you will turn left and proceed past the doors to the theater and the bathrooms until you get to a long hallway to your right. The check in desk will be in this hallway. Please check your student in between 4:40 and 4:50pm.
Once your child is checked in please proceed to the auditorium so you can watch your student perform! Please feel free to take as many pictures and videos as you would like at this time. You will not be allowed to take photos or videos during the actual performance.
After your student performs please pick them up at the check in desk
Flower Orders
This year we are partnering with a local company, Recital Blooms to make it simple for you to have flowers to give to your little dancer after they have performed for you. Flower purchases help to support our community’s nonprofit youth ballet company: Yaro Dance Company.
Performance Day
This is the big day! The Tech Rehearsal should hopefully make this a pretty easy day! You will follow the same process, dropping your student off by 5:45, then join the line to wait for the “house” to open at 6:00pm. Please note that this line can be quite long, so get there early!
Your student will be performing in the first Act of the show. After the first act has been completed and we begin the 15 minute intermission you can pick up your student. Please do not try to pick them up before the intermission, as we are very busy backstage and will not be able to bring individual students out. After you pick your student up you are welcome to watch the second act!
Theater Etiquette & Rules – These are for both the safety of your student and the enjoyment of the other people in the auditorium
- Photos or videos are not allowed during the performance. Every student who is enrolled in the concert will get either a Blu-Ray or DVD of their performance as part of their concert registration fee. You can also take photos and videos during your Tech Rehearsal.
- Please stay seated for the entire act, unless there is an emergency.
- Applause is encouraged!
