Description: This hour long class for kindergarteners will introduce young dancers to the standard structure of a ballet class with a short barre and some basic center work. We will also continue to emphasize musicality by introducing tap dance so that dancers can explore rhythm and sound.

Kate Wingert – Dance Instructor
Education: BS in Kinesiology and Health from Iowa State University
Kate started dancing at 3 years old at Main Street Dance Studio in Panora, IA and continued her training at Iowa Ballet Academy from 6th grade through her senior year of high school. She has had a love for many styles over the years including ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and modern.
Throughout high school Kate participated in Iowa Dance Theatre’s The Nutcracker, participated as a member of her high school dance team, and danced competitively for Iowa Ballet Academy. Most recently,
Kate was a member of the Iowa State University Dance Team where she had the opportunity to dance in front of thousands of cyclone fans and competitively at NDA nationals.
Kate graduated from Iowa State University in May of 2021 with a BS in Kinesiology and Health. She currently works at MercyOne Health and Fitness Center as a fitness specialist and personal trainer.
Brett Machamer – Dance Instructor
Brett has been dancing since the age of four, studying at Westside Dance Academy and Iowa Ballet Academy. Her main focus is in ballet and pointe, but she also studied jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern dance extensively. She also traveled to receive training at Milwaukee School of Ballet. Over the years, she performed with Iowa Dance Theatre and Yaro Dance Company, often performing lead roles. Through working with Iowa Dance Theatre, she has been able to be a student to many teachers in the Des Moines area. She was selected to perform a piece by Jessica Lang while her company visited Iowa in 2016. Most recently, she performed with Hurley and Dancers as a guest artist and co-choreographed a hip hop piece for Iowa Dance Theatre’s 2018 spring show.
She is currently a Senior member of Dance Masters of Mid-America and is certified in Progressing Ballet Techniques.
Brett works as a Physical Therapist Assistant part-time and continues to take classes and perform when she can.
